The Academy has appointed Carl-Anders Helander new Academy Secretary/Managing Director
KSLA’s Secretary and Managing Director Åke Barklund retires this summer. The Board has appointed Carl-Anders Helander from Falköping his successor, which was confirmed by the Academy in pleno at the meeting April 12.
Carl-Anders Helander is since 15 years CEO of the Swedish Rural Economy and Agricultural Society in Skara, southwest Sweden, where he earlier had different assignments in advisory and research. He became an agronomist at the Swedish university of agricultural sciences in Uppsala in 1979, where he also earned his PhD in 2002 with his doctor’s thesis “Farming System Research – an approach to developing of sustainable farming systems and the role of white clover as a component in nitrogen management”.
Before his agronomic studies Carl-Anders was a farm apprentice at farms in Sweden in England and his first job as an agronomist was as a fertilizer consultant for two years at Supra Company in Köping.
He was elected into the Academy’s Agricultural section in 2006.
For 30 years Carl-Anders and his wife Margareta, alongside their employments, have run her parental farm focusing on lamb and beef. A few years ago their son Carl with wife Sophie moved back home and they have since taken over a good deal of the practical work.
– As a fellow of the Academy I have had the privilege to follow and participate in the activities and I really look forward to working in Stockholm as the leader of the Academy. My opinion is that the Academy can play a more and more important role as a bridge of communication between research, commercial business and society within the green sector, Carl-Anders Helander comments his appointment.
Carl-Anders Helander takes on his position as Academy secretary in the middle of August 2012.
