Invitation to Bertebos Prize Nomination
The Bertebos Prize was established in 1996 by the Bertebos Foundation with the initiative of the then chairman Mr. Olof Stenström and his wife, Mrs. Brita Stenström. The aim is to promote research, development and education within the food industry. The Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry has been entrusted by the Bertebos Foundation to elect the prize winner. The Prize is presented every second year.
Invitation to Prize Nomination
The Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry has, for the 9th time, the privilege of inviting prominent persons and organisations to propose candidates for The Bertebos Prize of the Academy. The prize winner, who may be found in any country, should have carried out research of distinguished quality and (expected) practical use within the areas of Food, Agriculture, Ecology or Animal Health.
This time we invite nomination of candidates leading prominent research on the competition over scarce land resources, in particular focusing on conflicts between securing fertile agriculture land and using this land for infrastructure, thus often creating irreversible ecological change. This global dilemma involves issues of food security, land ownership, effective use of land and natural resources, equity and fairness between people, and brings attention to how those resources should best be governed, calling for a range of disciplinary approaches. Candidates should relate to some, albeit are not required to cover all those aspects of sustainable land use management.
The Prize consists of 300 000 Swedish krona (SEK), approx. 30 000 EUR, and a diploma and will be presented at the Commemorative Meeting of the Academy on 28 January 2013. His Majesty the King of Sweden, who is the Patron of the Academy, presents the Bertebos Prize and the other Academy awards. The Academy, which was established in 1813, celebrates its 200-year jubilee at the same time.
The awarded theme will the following year (2014) in September be the subject of a two days conference, where the prize winner and his/her research, will be given a prominent role.
