Swedish and foreign members
His Majesty the King Carl XVI Gustaf is patron of the Academy. The Academy is composed of Swedish members, maximally 210, under the age of 65, no more than 20 Honorary members and Foreign members of whom the number below the age of 65 shall be no more than 75.

The members are elected by the Academy. A good balance in terms of excellent competencies, sex and age distribution, and geographic domiciles should be aimed at. The membership shall mirror the current and future conditions that can be expected to exist within the Academy's field of work.

Swedish members should be Swedish citizens who are renowned for outstanding knowledge and experience within the Academy's field of work and who are expected to actively participate in the activities of the Academy. Persons over 65 years of age cannot be elected.

Honorary members should be Swedish or foreign citizens who have actively promoted the objectives of the Academy.

Foreign members should be persons of foreign nationality who have earned a reputation for outstanding knowledge and experience within the Academy's field of work. Persons over 65 years of age cannot be elected.

To be a member of the Academy entails an obligation to actively contribute knowledge and experience. Commitment and participation on the part of the members is the basis for a successful Academy work.
The Presidium and the Collegium
From 28 January 2008 professor Sara von Arnold is President of the Academy. Vice President is professor Åke Bruce. The Secretary General, Åke Barklund is also the Managing Director of the Academy. He is in charge of the Secretariat and leads the daily work of the Academy.

The President is the Chairman of the Academy. The President and the Vice President are elected for a period of four years and, together with the Secretary General, they constitute the Presidium. The Presidium co-ordinates the activities of the Academy.

The Board of the Academy - the Collegium - consists of the Presidium and four members from each division, 15 persons totally.
