Sweden is becoming increasingly dependent on and integrated with global political, scientific, technological and economic developments. The opportunities and challenges that green businesses face must now be seen from an international perspective. The key issue is how can we create a sustainable society and what role the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA) will play in this process.

The object of the Academy’s strategic plan is to attempt to identify important current and long-term issues within the agricultural industries and based on this to formulate visions and goals for the organisation. The strategic plan shall establish the distinguishing characteristics that define the activities of the members and the employees’ within the Academy.

It shall formulate goals for the organisation and create a framework for the Academy’s activities during the period 2009-2012. The strategic plan shall serve as a basis for annual plans drawn up by the different bodies within the Academy, although all such planning is in fact a continuous process.

A background analysis has been carried out as part of the development of a new strategic plan for the period 2009-2012 with the aim of highlighting important issues in the middle-term perspective. The background analysis is based on reports from various national and international organisations.
