Welcome to a webinar to discuss the outcome of the UN Food Systems Summit on 23 September, 2021. Sweden has been very engaged in the preparative process at local, regional and national levels. KSLA and the FAO Committee, together with the Government Offices, opened the process of national dialogues in Sweden in January of this year.
Now, it is time to see that the work continues our efforts. What are the current plans for fulfilling the road map laid out at the outcomes of the Summit? How will the work continue at all levels intergenerationally, across sectors and with a global outlook? What more research needs to be done and are there gaps?
As food systems impact the possibilities of reaching the global goals in the 2030 Agenda, UN Secretary General, Mr. António Guterres invited world leaders and stakeholders to the UN Food Systems Summit (FSS) held on 23 September, 2021. The thorough preparative work the UN Member States undertook to be ready for the Summit, showed both the importance and commitment of Member States and stakeholders to improve food systems to fulfil the global goals of sustainable development. A fully virtual meeting made it possible for 51 000 participants from 193 countries to engage and formally make almost 300 commitments. The Prime Minister of Sweden, Mr. Stefan Löfven, underlined in his speech at the summit that the right to food is a human right – this summit was not the end, but the beginning.
Now, it is time to continue our efforts. What are the current plans for fulfilling the outcomes of the Summit? How will the work continue at all levels intergenerationally, across sectors and with a global outlook? What more research needs to be done and are there gaps?
These are the topics we will touch upon in one of the first steps after the summit, welcome!
