The Forestry Section is arranging a study tour to the Pacific Northwest 18–27 May 2023 for its Academy Fellows. As far as space allows, your partner is also welcome. The purpose of this study tour is to learn about the entire value chain from silviculture and forest operations to the wood products industry in the Pacific Northwest.

The program includes general forest conditions, forest management and logging operations, nature conservation, certification issues and the Wood Products Industry. We will discuss forest policy and how it differs from the Swedish situation. How the demand and supply situation for forest raw materials has been affected by increased conservation concerns, forest fires and the mountain pine beetle outbreak in British Colombia will also be highlighted. The role of the forestry sector and the forest industry in tackling climate change and the incentives for increasing the sector’s contribution to the bioeconomy, as well as the role of innovation, are other areas that will be covered.
