Bertebos Conference – welcome to discuss New Ruralities!

New Ruralities – changing agendas for research and practice

The 2014 Bertebos Conference in Falkenberg, Sweden, is dedicated to Professor Philip Lowe who received the Bertebos prize in 2013. He holds the Duke of Northumberland Chair of Rural Economy and is the founding Director of the Centre for Rural Economy at Newcastle University, UK.

This year’s topic is in line with his reflexive and interdisciplinary approach to rural studies. We will bring together distinguished Swedish and UK researchers from many disciplines as well as prominent stakeholders to discuss the social, economic, environmental and technological challenges faced by rural areas with a special focus on Sweden and the UK.

The theme New Ruralities will guide all parallel sessions and the two Key Notes, asking what changes in practice are taking place in rural areas and what implications those have for research. We have an exciting and topical range of parallel sessions to choose from, and will ask all participants to contribute to making this Conference an active forum for discussing New Ruralities.

Register no later than 8 August.
Fee: SEK 2900 incl meals.
