Increasing need for sustainable marine food production and mitigation actions against climate change has brought culturing of macroalgae on the agenda. There is substantial optimism amongst stakeholders and a large potential for growing algae for different purposes in Norwegian waters, but the industry is n its infancy and challenges in relation to production, marked, potential environmental impact and management need to be solved before this promising blue industry can grow successfully and sustainably.

The Norwegian scientist Kjell Magnus Norderhaug, PhD, Institute of Marine Research in Norway IMR, Research Group of Benthic, gives this talk about this emerging industry. His research also deals with communities and coastal interactions, environmental monitoring, effects of eutrophication and climate change, diving and environmental management. Welcome!
