Only for invited participants. The potential for blue mussel farming in the Baltic Sea, for the purpose of reducing eutrophication, is a topic where different stakeholders have diverging opinions. In part, the difference in opinion may be due to the fact that different stakeholders value the environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainability with mussel farming differently.
SLU, in collaboration with the Committee on Baltic Sea Issues within the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, has arranged this round table of Swedish stakeholders with a range of viewpoints about blue mussel farming in the Baltic. The group includes entrepreneurs, academics, NGOs and municipal government representatives. We believe that everyone at the round table shares a vision for a healthy Baltic Sea ecosystem but have valid differences of opinion about the sustainability of blue mussel farming.
We hope that by sharing viewpoints on environmental, social and economic aspects, it will be possible to move towards a more holistic and shared understanding of the potential benefits and risks of blue mussel farming, thereby contributing to a more sustainable Baltic Sea.
