On June 23–29 this year, IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) organizes its World Congress in Stockholm. The IUFRO World Congress is one of the largest global forest events, held every five years since 1893. KSLA is one of nine Major organizational Partners of the congress. In conjunction with the congress, KSLA organizes a reception with mingling and panel discussions where fellows, international and Swedish, can meet to exchange experiences.

The panel discussion will be a dialogue between five of IUFRO’s past Presidents together with the President of the International Forestry Students Association, Youth Representatives to the UN system and young fellows of KSLA. The subject will be ’Contemplation over the major transformations in forestry during the last 50 years and the challenges in the coming 50 years’.

Protecting and restoring nature and ecosystems touches the very lifeblood of our societies and economies. Nature and ecosystems make up our life support system, and without conscious efforts to protect and restore nature, the economic system will erode step by step. By the declaration of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration in 2021, governments have recognized the need to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide for the benefit of both people and nature. A 10-year drive for restoration, was called upon to speed up action for reaching the goals of Paris Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
