Sweden has committed to reducing its emissions by 85% relative to 1990 levels. A crucial aspect of this effort is enhancing the net removal of greenhouse gases through nature-based climate solutions. When effectively implemented, these solutions, particularly wetlands, can significantly contribute to the triple bottom line—environmental, economic, and social equity—while fostering a thriving green economy.
From 2022 to 2024, Professor Creed has held the distinguished Wallenberg Professorship awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry for contributions to the recognition and promotion of wetlands as nature-based climate solutions. The Wallenberg Professorship enables Professor Creed to share insights from the Canadian experience into the potential role of wetlands in these climate solutions. It also supports the development of Canada-Sweden collaborations aimed at advancing scientific understanding of wetlands as natural climate solutions by sharing data, synthesizing literature, and developing models to predict the role of wetlands on a national scale.
The lecture starts with lunch, welcome!
