The Academy wants in short digital lunch talks present our international fellows, in order to inspire and disseminate information on well-known or not so well-known research, practical experiences or hidden facts.
The Nordic countries have a long-standing cooperation in the forest sector. This is currently institutionalized at the Nordic Council of Ministers with strong political engagement and well established administrative and academic cooperation.
The forest sectors in the five Nordic countries are however not homogenic, have man similarities but also significant differences. In the talk, professor Petursson will examine the Nordic forest cooperation and its key instruments as its interplay with other regional and international forest regimes such as Forest Europe, in EU and at UN. He will then introduce the case of Iceland, the Nordic country with the lowest forest area, but with a great aspiration to afforest and restore the former woodlands.
We will get insights in Iceland’s current forest and woodland creation work and its multiple challenges and achievements.
